Organizing Committees

The conference will be organized by one committee for each meeting. For the Business Meeting there will be a Programme Committee, comprising key stakeholders for the establishment of AfAS; this committee will establish both the programme and the invitation list. For the Science Meeting, a Scientific Organizing Committee will put the programme together and select contributions from the participants. For both meetings there will be Local Organizing Committees which will handle the logistics of the conference.

Programme Committee (for Business Meeting in Cape Town, 25-26 March 2019)

A group was nominated at the 4th Middle East and Africa Meeting (MEARIM) in Ethiopia in 2017, to drive this initiative forward. This group forms the core of the committee. They are supported by representatives of the three Africa-based Regional Offices of Astronomy for Development (ROADs), as well as representatives of the two largest astronomy research facilities on the continent, SARAO and SAAO. Importantly, a representative of the original AfAS Executive, and a representative from the EAAS are also included, as well as representatives of the main funder of the meeting (DST) and the main facilitator (OAD).
